Summary:
The emergence of simplistic approaches in the Ummah has resulted in a desertion of sound scholarship and hence an abandonment of the cohesive understanding of the Ulema. One area significantly affected by this Fitna (tribulation) is the Hadith of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) along with its ancillary sciences. Many modern Muslims believe that the most cursory knowledge authorises them to attack Ahadith, by uncritically classifying them as ‘Weak’ (Da’if) or ‘Forged’ (Mawdu), merely because they are uncomplimentary to their doctrinal positions. In order to conclusively eliminate such obfuscations, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, presents in this lecture, details of the differences of the authorities on this Subject. The Shaykh compares the Weak (Da’if) Hadith to an ill man. He states that in the same way we do not discard a sick person to the grave, we cannot discard a Da’if narration and equate it to a fabrication. The weaknesses of the Da’if Hadith are curable, much in the same way as the ailments of a sick man are. The Shaykh further highlights that there are 15 sub-categories of the Da’if Hadith of which only two are rejected by consensus. This lecture provides a means to protection from deviant beliefs, as well as a return to the wonderful principles of our scholars.
